How important is product photography when trying to sell your soap? I read a quote the other day that people remember 80% of what they see, but only remember 20% of what they read.

The simple fact is, the better your products look, the more you’ll sell. Great product photography is even more important than product descriptions.

Product Photography for Soap Makers

This is especially true if you’re selling on sites that list multiple sellers, such as Etsy or Amazon Handmade. If you don’t have good products photos, viewers will simply move on to the next listing.

I recently started working with a product photographer for photos on this blog and in eBooks. I immediately saw results.

  • I’m selling more eBooks.
  • I’m seeing more social shares.
  • I’m getting more views.

As soapmakers we spend so much money on supplies such as fragrance oils, molds, swirling tools, mica…but we skimp on business services that will help us sell more soap, such as branding, labels, websites and…photography!

Many soapmakers try to DIY with photography and it just falls short. Check out Etsy and you’ll see what I mean. In today’s competitive market you have to make your product stand out. Good product photography can help you do that.

I highly recommend the photographer that I’m working with. Her name is Christina and she owns Busy Bee Creative. Christina is a personal friend who recently started a product photography business. She has been taking photos for years. She took product photos for Benjamin’s soap company, Prairie Soap Company (now closed) and for our current product line, The Imperial Drifter. You can check out the photos on the website. Here are a few.

She can take white background photos for product catalogs and website listings. She also does what she calls Scenics, photos that are more stylized and designed.
