Austin Bootcamp and more classes!

Last weekend we had a very successful Austin Soapmaking Bootcamp. We offered three classes, basic soapmaking, cupcakes and layers and lines. I had a great group of students who blew me away with their creations…so I just had to share pictures from the bootcamp. I am simply amazed!

Thank you to Holly Port of Lotion Bar Cafe who came down to Texas to help out with the bootcamp! She stepped up in the cupcake class and showed the students how to pipe some amazing cupcakes and also how to pipe on top of loaves. Thanks, Holly!

We kicked off the bootcamp with the basic soapmaking class. This class is very hands on where each student gets to make (from start to finish) a two pound batch of soap. They get to pick their own color and fragrance.

The next class was the layers, lines and embeds class. We went over a ton of things in this class. The students to got to design their own loaf of soap using a combination of layering techniques, embeds and a pencil line. This class blew me away. I love the loaves that they created.

The students got to create cupcake soap and worked on piping techniques. Holly Port also showed us different piping techniques that can be done on the top of a loaf of soap! So pretty!

Austin Texas Soap Making Bootcamp

A couple of Saturdays ago I had my first Austin, Texas Soapmaking Bootcamp where I offered both the basic class and an advanced class. It was a ton of fun. I had some repeats for the basic class so we stepped it up a bit by making a milk soap. The advanced color and swirling class was amazing. Some of the students came up with designs that were simply stunning masterpieces!

New York City Soapmaking Classes

Marla Bosworth of Back Porch Soap hosted a set of classes in NYC this past weekend.  When Holly Port and I were down in Austin teaching, she asked if we’d be interested in teaching in NY.  After doing a happy dance or two…we excitedly agreed to do it.  Classes were planned, listed and sold out quickly!  We had students from different countries and from different states around the US!

I taught a Cupcake and Specialty Drink class in which we made cold process cupcakes, latte soap and salt bar smoothies.  I also taught an advanced coloring class where I taught the peacock swirl, hearts and flowers and a landscape/layering design.

My good friend Holly Port of Lotion Bar Cafe taught Happy Hour Soaping where she made soap out of beer, wine and champagne.  Her other class was on felting soap.

I want to send a big thank you to Marla for having us and being such a great host!  Below are some pics from the classes.

Sept 17 Soap class! Intro to CP

We had an Intro to CP soap class a couple of weekends ago and it was a smashing success!  I had 9 wonderful students who did an awesome job!

The class was held at the Bowles Life Center in Grand Prairie, TX.  It really is a beautiful facility.

After talking a bit about the basics…we jumped right into making soap.  The first step was making the lye solutions.  Then every team measured out their oils.

Next we gathered around the fragrances and talked about the differences in FOs and EOs.  I had Bramble Berry fragrances on hand including Energy (my fav), Lavender Chamomile and Vanilla Select.  I had peppermint EO on hand for those that wanted an EO.  We also talked about color.

Then it was time to stick blend!

Once everyone reached trace, they got to scent and color their soap.

And my favorite picture from the event…

After we were all mixed up…the soap went into the molds.

My friend Courtney came and took pics.  She took some awesome shots!  (Thanks, Courtney!)

I want to thank everyone that attended.  I know I had a blast and I hope you did as well!
